About the area
Luang Prabang's old town sits on a narrow peninsula where the Nam Khan river meets the Mekong. Gilded temples and French-era shophouses line Sisavangvong Road, and the food is northern Lao: sticky rice with every meal, herb-heavy laap, herb sausages, noodle soups, steamed fish in coconut milk, crisp sheets of Mekong river weed and or lam, the town's peppery stew.

Food and dietary notice
Cross-contamination is likely, so our food guides are not recommended if you have food allergies. We can't cater for religious dietary requirements and we don't state whether anything is halal. Where we know a dish contains pork, beef or alcohol we say so, but that is not conclusive — check directly with each vendor. You take part at your own risk.
If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, we recommend you don't take part.
