About the area

Ipoh's Old Town grew rich on tin in the late 1800s, and its coffee shops have been feeding the city ever since. This is the home of Ipoh white coffee, silky flat rice noodles and some of Malaysia's smoothest tau fu fa, served in kopitiams that still keep their marble tables and early hours.

A taste of what you'll find

Examples only. Photos show the dish, not the plate you will be served at the stop. The full route, addresses and dish prices are in your guide.

Before you buy

  • Some stops are closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays — plan those days around them.
  • Around Chinese New Year (3 days) the Chinese-run kopitiams may close or get very busy.

Food and dietary notice

Cross-contamination is likely, so our food guides are not recommended if you have food allergies. We can't cater for religious dietary requirements and we don't state whether anything is halal. Where we know a dish contains pork, beef or alcohol we say so, but that is not conclusive — check directly with each vendor. You take part at your own risk.

If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, we recommend you don't take part.
