About the area

Phuket Old Town grew rich on tin, and the Hokkien Chinese and Peranakan families who settled here built the pastel shophouses you'll walk past today. Their cooking is still the backbone of local eating: Hokkien noodles, rice porridge, braised pork, fresh spring rolls and Southern Thai curries, with Muslim roti for breakfast.

A taste of what you'll find

Examples only. Photos show the dish, not the plate you will be served at the stop. The full route, addresses and dish prices are in your guide.

Before you buy

  • Some stops are closed on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Some stops may be closed on Sundays — plan those days around them.
  • Cash only at One Chun.
  • Around Songkran and the days around it some stops close or get very busy; around Chinese New Year the Hokkien-run shops may close, and during Ramadan the Muslim-run roti shops may change their hours.

Food and dietary notice

Cross-contamination is likely, so our food guides are not recommended if you have food allergies. We can't cater for religious dietary requirements and we don't state whether anything is halal. Where we know a dish contains pork, beef or alcohol we say so, but that is not conclusive — check directly with each vendor. You take part at your own risk.

If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, we recommend you don't take part.
